Just read this in the news. The "president" won't cooperate with lawful subpoenas issue by the House in their impeachment inquiry.
I suppose he might have a thin case from the standpoint of the constitutional protection against self-incrimination. He's basically saying he "pleads the fifth," in that to acquiesce to the subpoenas would no doubt incriminate him and his whole Insane Clown Posse even more than they're already incriminated!
At this point, the House must surely have enough clear documented evidence for multiple counts of abuse of power, obstruction of justice, violation of the emoluments clause of the Constitution, and even treason - to draft several very strong articles of impeachment.
Come on, Nancy! Let's get on with this. Impeach the SOB. Get the ball in the Senate's limp-wristed incapable hands. Let Moscow Mitch dismiss the case out of hand, or let the Trumptard majority acquit him of wrongdoing. Those are the two likely outcomes. But at least he'll go into the history books as our third impeached president.
Then let the Republicans reap the whirlwind of disaffection in the 2020 elections. They will have categorically proven that the rich and powerful ARE ABOVE THE LAW!!
The GOP (what remains of it) will no longer be able to claim it is the "Law and Order" party. They will no longer be able to claim they are patriots. They're obviously not. They're the "We Support Criminals Who Benefit Us" party. And their support of a traitor to everything American will be on the record. The permanent record. History will not be kind to this administration and those who support it.
As a teenager, I was honored to hear Harry Truman speak once, live at a political rally. I was too young to vote, and wasn't yet very politically astute. But I walked down to the college in my home town in west Kentucky to hear the man speak. I wanted to look upon him - this great man. This was the man who made the lonely decision to loose atomic weapons on Japan - to end WWII and to save hundreds of thousands of American lives. The man who stepped up after FDR died in office and carried the country through.
This little old man from Missouri impressed me. Honest, forthright, tough with nothing but America's best interests at heart. A true statesman. A president to be proud of.
I wasn't a supporter of Truman's successor, Dwight Eisenhower, but I also thought of him as an honest man with America's best interests at heart. I trusted Ike.
When I compare presidents like Truman and Eisenhower and Kennedy to the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, I mourn for what we have lost. Where are the statesmen? Where are the honest leaders we can be proud of? How did we come to this sad state of affairs, and can we ever climb out?
I fear he will be impeached, run again and be elected again. He appeals to many people.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm afraid of that, too. But as long as impeachment is the only constitutional remedy for a corrupt president, we'll just have to impeach him again and again!
